HR Job Interview

Succeeding at a job interview is no easy task. In fact, most people agree that the interview is the most challenging part of the job search process. However, it is important to note that there is one type of job interview that is more challenging than most. This type of interview, which is known as the HR or human resources job interview, is an interview in which a job applicant is interviewed by a human resources representative. Interviewing with an HR representative may seem relatively straight forward, but it can be a major problem for some applicants. As a result, it may be helpful for a job applicant to keep a few things in mind about this particular type of interview.

First, one of the major reasons that an HR job interview is difficult is that a human resources representative will only know what he or she has been told about the position. This means that the representative will not be able to answer every question that you ask and, more importantly, that the representative will not know any of the procedures or terminology related to that specific position. As a result, you may want to avoid answers that are filled with jargon or answers that are heavily based on complex concepts related to the position.

Secondly, a human resources representative will typically evaluate a job applicant based on a list of skills that the organization or the department manager has provided for the HR job interview. This means that the representative is looking for a specific set of skills and it will be difficult for you to convince the representative that there may be other skills that will help you perform the position. Therefore, you must learn as much about the position as you can before the interview so you can emphasize the skills that the company appears to be looking for. Finally, it is important to remember that an HR job interview is typically used as a screening interview. This means that a human resources representative is only trying to determine whether you have the basic skills to perform the position or not. In other words, you must prove that you have the skills that the representative is looking for so the representative will inform the manager of the department in which the position is located that another interview is necessary.
